When I was first born, I was transported to Akron Childrens NICU and spent 10 weeks there. My very first surgery was by Dr. Robert Klein, and was 7 ½ hours long.
I had a detached esophagus and a condition called Aperts syndrome, in which my fingers and toes are fused and skull growth is abnormal. Ive had about 100 surgeries since birth, ranging from reconstruction of my hands, face and head to a shunt.
Through all of my many surgeries and medical challenges, Ive kept a positive attitude and I stay involved in my favorite activities. I volunteered at Akron Childrens for 10 years and Ive been a change bandit for the Have A Heart, Do Your Part Radiothon.
I also was on the Childrens Miracle Network Hospitals Telethon Broadcast Committee. Currently I volunteer for the American Cancer Societys Stow-Munroe Falls Relay For Life and the Lock 3 Park. Im also a proud head usher at the Akron Civic Theater and work At Kohls.
I love to travel to Florida and listen to pop rock and country music.
If it wasnt for the wonderful doctors and nurses at Akron Childrens Hospital, I would not be here today.
As part of our year-long anniversary celebration, well be telling the story of Akron Childrens through the eyes of past and present employees, doctors, donors, volunteers and patient families. We encourage you to share your own memories and stories about us.
