We soon learned that was not the case. He went into respiratory distress and his limbs were completely blue. He was ventilated and transported to Aultman NICU. They said that he probably wasn’t going to make it, and then transported him to Akron Children’s Hospital, where his life was saved by all the amazing doctors and nurses.
And I mean that when I say that. They found out Carson was born with a blood clot in his pulmonary artery and his inferior vena cava. No doctor had ever seen this happen.
From the moment we arrived, the nurses made our journey so much better. I was there all day from morning to night and I would sit and have conversations with the nurses.
Every day I am so thankful for Akron Children’s Hospital and all the staff who helped save my son.
Today, Carson is a 7-month-old, happy baby who is growing like a weed.
As part of our year-long anniversary celebration, we’ll be telling the story of Akron Children’s through the eyes of past and present employees, doctors, donors, volunteers and patient families. We encourage you to share your own memories and stories about us.
